Barely one month after its release, Microsoft homemade social smartphone is officially dead. The Redmond-based Giant decide to focus its energy on Windows Phone 7, the upcoming mobile platforms.

Here is the official words from Microsoft :

We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the US to sell current KIN phones.

World Cup 2010. Too many mistakes. Blatter says sorry

The  2010 edition of the World Cup has left a bitter taste  for England and Mexico who were sent off the competition  after their defeat against Germany and Argentina respectively. The FIFA CEO Sipp Blatter apologized to England and Mexico over the refereeing errors and sets out to make things right by introducing a goal-line technologies in the near the future.

The FIFA CEO was reacting to two major incidents that occurred during the round of 16 when Frank Lampard has his goal dismissed even though the ball was clearing over the line during the clash with Germany which would have made it 2-2. However, Germany went scoring 4-2.

The other incident happened during the match that opposed Argentina against Mexico. The Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez was clearly offside when he scored the first goal. Argentina went scoring 3-1.

“Personally I deplore it when you see evident referee mistakes but it’s not the end of a competition or the end of football, this can happen,” said Blatter.

“The only thing I can do is yesterday I have spoken to the two federations (England and Mexico) directly concerned by referees mistakes.

“I have expressed to them apologies and I understand they are not happy and that people are criticizing.

“I apologized to England and Mexico. The English said ‘thank you’ and accepted that you can win (some) and you lose (some), and the Mexicans bowed their head and accepted it.

Mr. Blatter focuses on a goal-line technology which would have made no difference to the Mexican game or indeed to the incident when Thierry Henry’s handball set up what proved to be the crucial goal in the France v Ireland World Cup play-off last November.

“The only principle we are going to bring back for discussion is goal-line technology,” said Blatter.

“Football is a game that never stops and the moment there was a discussion if the ball was in or out, or there was a goal-scoring opportunity, do we give a possibility to a team to call for replays once or twice like in tennis?

“For situations like the Mexico game you don’t need technology.

“Its obvious that that after what we have experienced so far it would be a nonsense not to reopen the technology topic in July (21-22) in Cardiff.”

Blatter also said that FIFA in October or November would unveil a new global plan to improve refereeing at competitions under its purview.

“We want to improve the match control,” he said.

“How to do it ? After World Cup 1990, we created a task force called football 2000.

“We made some amendments like the back pass to goal keeper. It’s not today we have just started. It’s an ongoing process. We’ll come out in October/November with a new model how to improve high level refereeing.

“I cannot disclose more of what we are doing but something has to be changed.”

It should be noted that FIFA debuffed all demands to resort to video technology to resolve contentious refereeing decisions despite it being successfully implemented in other sports such as tennis, cricket and rugby union claiming that it would disrupt the free-flowing movement of the game.

But international pressure grew following the Henry handball outcry and Sunday’s two glaring incidents have brought the issue back into the full glare of the spotlight.

Tell No One by Harlan Coben

Let me confess you something, I bought the book Tell No One written by the acclaimed writer Harlan Coben way back in 2006, when the movie based on the book was released at that time. Today, I’m still addicted to all the works done by Harlan Coben; it is a source of inspiration, and Tell No One is no exception to the rule. The writer knows how attract the reader using suspense and fast-paced plot where everything goes at fast speed. The story is set in modern time, and follows Doctor David Beck, a pedestrian who is mourning his dead wife Elizabeth who was abducted and killed by a supposed serial killer (but actually a copycat who uses the same MO) in a secluded place, known as Lake Charmaine where the couple used to go every year in order to celebrate their anniversary where they first kissed (the famous “Kiss Time”) and carve a line on a rock that represents each passing year. When the body of Elizabeth was found, David’s life veers to the worst.
Every one in his surrounding tells David to move on and forget the past. However, the past resurfaced when a link sent to David’s email shows him a real-time footage (captured by a skycam) of a woman standing still and looking at him, with a smile and a tear flooding down her cheek. That woman is actually his dead wife Elizabeth.

Heartbeat for the Nokia E63

Nokia E63 is going to be probably my next phone. I know, I’m out of mainstream. While most of folks out there are absorbed by the never-ending phenomenon of Apple iPhone and with the upcoming release of the HD variant of the Cupertino-based smartphone, it’s going to attract more buyers and Apple fanatics which will reinforce Apple its position as the leader in the smartphone market. This put me in the margin, but actually as far as I’m concerned, I do not care. For me, Nokia is the best and remain the leader in manufacturing the world renowned smartphone in the industry. After all, I won’t criticize Apple, I give credits for Steve Jobs. He is just a perfectionist , he took the idea of a smartphone and turns it into iPhone. He did the same with the decade-old Tablet PC and turns it into an iPad.

Enough talk, let’s have a close look to the Nokia E63, a smartphone that I’m falling in love with.

Nokia E63 comes from the line of the ESeries which are targeted for businesses. However, the E63 is a subset version of the widely acclaimed E71 and to some extent the newest upgrade, E72. The E63 is for those who can’t afford to pony up the expensive E71 and the most expensive E72. You got it, the E63 are for low-budget businesses and consumers. Although the three of them look similar in theirs form factors (i.e. monoblock model) , most of the features found in E71 are stripped down from the E63 in order to appeal for mainstream users, who wants to take advantages of the full QWERTY keyboard in order to write mails or sending SMS without sacrificing most of corporate features.  In other words, E63 is, as I use to name it, a hybrid phone for both Businesses and Consumer, while the E71 is only for corporate users.

The first thing we notice when you touch the E63, that its form factor is made from a plastic, which is a good idea, for those who are still paranoid to leave their fingerprints visible on the stainless-steel E71. Yes, much like the back of the iPod Classic, the E71 is a fingerprinty.

The Nokia E63 bundles quite major features that are found in almost every smartphones with some of them, of course removed like the 3.2 Mega-pixels camera with Autofocus. It is replaced by a mere 2 Mega-pixels instead with no Autofocus. There is no GSP in it and no HSDPA. I guess, is not a big loss for the E63 users. WIFI is quite enough to surf on Internet or chat on Facebook.

What actually comes with the Nokia E63 are WIFI for better wireless connectivity, Bluetooth and a MicroUSB  to connect it to your computer. The CPU is clocked at 369 MHz with ARM 11 Processor. As far Memory is concerned, user benefits from the 111 MB of  internal space but of course, upgradeable thanks to the MicroSD Hot-swap up to 16 GB (official) and some sources claim that you can boost it to 32 GB, but it’s unofficial.

The major improvement in E63, is the lithium-polymer based battery, which last much longer than the iPhone.

As far as the entertainment is concerned, you can listen to the MP3, AAC, WMA and RealMedia. The Nokia E63 is powered by Symbian S60. The best of bread Opertaing System.

Sadly, E63 is not recognized by the Device Stage, the new devices management included in Windows 7. You can manage your contacts list in E63 as well as its contents directly from Nokia’s proprietary software.

Here is a video showing off Nokia E63 in action.
